Many millions of years ago, Roebuck Bay used to be the mouth of
the Fitzroy River, which later changed direction towards King Sound
out of Derby. It is the most biodiverse bay in the world attracting
a wide range of professionals including marine biologists,
paleontologists, geologists, geomorphologists, archeologists, wild
life experts, bird enthusiasts and many others. Not forgetting of
course the thousands upon thousands of visitors who flock to Broome
each year.
The impressive and ancient looking tidal creeks are home to many
species of mangroves, flying foxes, crabs, the occasional
crocodile, wader birds, but mostly a great range of fish ready to
pounce on a fishing line that tempts them.
